Here's a sketch I just finished this afternoon. What is it about old things, from when we were little that seems to fascinate us? Is it because they remind us of a simpler times? I think so. I love to sew and I love to collect anything to do with sewing. Going through sewing boxes from years ago at estate sales is just fascinating! Old buttons, bits of lace, hooks and snaps, and of course old wooden bobbins ~ treasures to behold!
Another sketch that surprised me! When I first sat down to draw this I thought "no way, I've completely lost my mind now...". But I did it! I just gave up trying to draw every single button. :)
I was trying to think of button quotes to use as a border but only came up with two, tried a search with no luck so if you know of some other button quotes please let me know!
Now if only I can keep doing one sketch a day I will have this moleskin really quickly!
I sat down to crochet last night and decided to sketch and journal instead. I had fun with this, drawing the bottom right sketch of the stitches was a bit challenging and I ended up cheating a little, but that's my creative license.
I wish I had 4 clones! One could do all the cooking and cleaning, one could sew all the time, one could draw all the time, one could do mixed media art... okay I would definitely need more than just 4 clones. Wouldn't that be awesome?!!! I guess that's not an option so I'll have to do with just one of me and squeeze as much as I can into the time I have, maybe if I sleep less....
I'm back to doing EDM challenges, this is one from a few weeks ago, draw some paper money. George is off center but this is totally done in pen and ink. I decided I need to start putting more color into my sketches so I used a green that was way too bright and I toned it down with purple. This is one of those prompts that I thought "oh you've got to be kidding, that's too hard." I just started working from the outside in and obviously left out some details otherwise it would take years. Years ago at an art museum back east we saw a small drawing/painting that an artist had done a long time ago. It looked so realistic that at the time they accused him of just pasting the bill on the paper. They even looked at it with a magnifying glass ~ the artist insisted he painted it. I think it was proven years later that he had in fact painted it. I had totally forgotten about that until I did this challenge. Mine of course is not even close to the real thing.
Oh brrrrrrr! Did I wake up in Alaska? It was -9 degrees this morning!!!! Our high was 9. It was supposed to be 20 but it didn't make it... Tomorrow is supposed to be 30 but I'll believe it when I see it. See the rock? That was my first try at a rabbit that was really bad so it became a rock. I like John P's idea of making notes to myself and highlighting them so I have done that ~ my rabbits look like chihuahuas! Work was pretty slow today so I just kicked back and doodled and and journaled in between calls.

I apologize for my long absence - I have a new part time job, with the full time job of Mom, chauffeur, cook, maid etc. it doesn't leave much time for art. Yes, after being a stay-at-home mom and artist for a lot longer than I had planned I am now working every morning Monday thru Friday. It's been an adjustment and we're still adjusting. The paycheck is really nice though! But I do miss all the time to create and draw and just be inspired.

Drawing this quilt proved to be more difficult than I thought, especially with just pen and ink - no eraser! I messed up and didn't get the folds right so had to just wing it with the squares... Decided to add some color this morning with colored pencils. I'll have to try drawing another quilt, maybe with a few less folds......
Here's another challenge from the Everyday Matters group. I was surprised this turned out so well. I've never thought of drawing my keys, antique skeleton keys yes, but modern keys no. I did cheat and take one of the key rings off, that seemed a little too daunting. This is done in pen and ink and colored pencil for the heart. I'm getting more used to using just a pen and foregoing the pencil.
One of the things I like about the EDM challenges is that it makes you stretch and has you draw things you would never even consider normally. Plus some of them just seem like they would be too hard, but once you sit down and focus you can draw them! One of these days I'll have to attempt faces. I've never been very good at drawing faces, of course I've never practiced at it either....

Well so much for drawing everyday. I have been doing art, just not sketching. My bad. Here are a couple of new ones. The silverware sketch is after not drawing for a week, ugh! It's pretty bad! I really have to make myself sketch something (even if it's just a quick sketch) every day. Speaking of silverware, I found myself checking out the silverware for patterns to draw while I was at the thrift store and brought some new patterns home. :)
Here are a couple of pen and ink sketches with watercolor washes that I went out and did this morning. I'm trying to draw and paint all my flowers before fall and winter hits. I'm rather proud of myself for using a pen and no pencil and eraser!
I just got new glasses which apparently I needed really badly. Let me explain: I have been driving by this tree for years and never noticed these weird pods on it before! I made my hubby pull over so I could pick some of these pods and leaves off. There was also a cigar tree further down that I made him pull over for again so I could jump out and get a pod and leaf. I haven't drawn that one yet but will.... I had no idea what this tree was called and happened to be blog surfing and ran across Mary O's blog and she had drawn the pods also! How funny! In the comments someone had told her what kind of tree it was and so I googled it and sure enough - it's a Golden Rain tree. I'd love to have one of these but my yard has too many trees now.....
Okay, this is not my greatest sketch, but it's the first time Valentine would lay still for me. I thought I did pretty good at capturing the mood - she was hot and tired. She has this little cubby under the built in desk that's sort of her hide out. I did this sketch really quick because I was afraid she was going to get up and go in the other room.....
Just drew this up. I'll have to look up my fun fact, but I think it is one can of soda has the equivalent of a cup of sugar, or is that only 3 tablespoons? That's why I left it blank, I'll have to look it up. Anyway, since I didn't get a sketch done yesterday I decided to get one out of the way really quick this morning. Cheers!

I had to look up the sugar thing, as it's been bugging me to know. Answer: one can of pop has the equivalent of 10-11 tsp of sugar, or just shy of 1/4 cup! (Note: 15 cal./tsp.)
Now that's disgusting!
This truck is parked in a driveway about 4 miles down the road and I keep driving by and forgetting my camera so today I pulled over and drew a quick sketch, even though there was a bush and mailbox in my way..... I still want to go take a picture but I thought it was cool for this challenge.
This is a sketch of a flag I did for an EDM challenge. While I was drawing it I remembered seeing on the news where a soldier that had served in Iraq was filming at a peace rally and a girl spit on him!!! How disgusting is that?!!! And how dare she spit on a soldier who has left his family and put his life on the line to protect her freedom of speech! That just really ticked me off, it didn't seem to upset him too much and of course he couldn't say anything to her....... So from me to all our guys and gals who are off protecting our rights - THANK YOU! I really appreciate it!
