Two new paintings

These are two drawing/sketches I did tonight. I drew them both up and painted them in 1 1/2 hours, not too bad. I totally cheated and drew them in pencil, then painted them and then added the ink. :)
Anyone know what the name of the second flower is? I cannot remember. I know it's not Echinacea or Yarrow..... The leaves are a little fuzzy and the flowers are fuchsia...

Another EDM

This is a sketch I did the other night. I was tempted to get out the ruler and pencil to make lines for my letters, but that would totally go against the "sketching" idea, so I winged it. I thought The Gazette part turned out really well, although my headline letters are all different sizes. But the point of sketching is to do it quick. This wasn't a 15 minute sketch either, this took more like 30-45 minutes..... I'm need to sketch birds or animals or something that won't hold still so I get into the quick habit. When things don't move it's easy to take a lot more time..... But so far I've been sketching or drawing every day, so I feel good about meeting that goal, even if some of my sketches are awful. I'm only human.

EDM #1 - draw a shoe

This is my drawing for the EDM challenge #1 - draw a shoe. This is one of my work boots. We're supposed to just sketch something really quick (like 15 minutes) but I wanted to spend more time and work on the shading, plus the boot just looked weird so I was wishing I could use an eraser or maybe some white out! LOL! I did move the line down, I think that helped.

Thanks for visiting and for your comments. :)

New moleskin journal and EDM

The top sketch is another spoon sketch that I did in my new moleskin journal. The bottom one is another EDM that I did in my other sketchbook. I must admit I'm a little intimidated to draw in my moleskin, they cost twice as much as other sketchbooks and they have a reputation! Da Vinci, Hemingway and other famous people used them so I'm feeling that whatever I put in it has to be good! Talk about pressure!!!!!
I also finished my first painted postcard for a swap on the EDM group last night. I've never swapped sketched and or painted postcards so this should be fun and exciting! I'm not posting the pictures until everyone has theirs, I haven't decided if I'm going to do them all the same or different........

Thank you!

Okay, first off, this is not a painting, yet. It's just a photo of God's work, isn't he a great artist?!!!

I just wanted to post a quick thank you to all of you for your support and kind words! I'm having a blast drawing and it's so nice to get such positive feedback!!!!!! Thank you!

I do owe you an apology for that dirty word I've been using, you know the cl__n word. LOL! My problem is I never do it so it gets so bad I can't stand it and I can't find anything and then I have to cl__n, oh sorry, well you know.

EDM #94 - draw a spoon and journal about it

This is EDM #94 - I really had fun drawing these! I did this last night. As a matter of fact I did another spoon drawing tonight! I'll post it tomorrow.

The cleaning and organizing frenzy continues. I am so burnt out! I don't know how I ever fit all that stuff in my art room! And I'm not sure it's all going to go back in!!! I've cleaned 1/3 of the basement... I haven't even gotten to the end where I do my fabric and textile art. I'm rolling my eyes as I think about that. I really have to learn to clean up after every project...

Have a great weekend!

More EDM challenges

Yes, I know, they're not all perfect, but then, neither am I. :) I've been running my kids to the dentist etc these last couple of days, that's how I got so much drawing done. Unfortunately the art room and basement are still a mess and I need to get back to cleaning and organizing and be done with it, so I can get on to more important things - ART! I got my drawing table set up in the art room again, now to try and squeeze in all those plastic storage containers that I have....... And try and decide what I need to get rid of.... that's the hard part.
Have a great day!

New EDM challenges

I have been reading The Creative License by Danny Gregory. Very good book and very inspiring to just sketch everything you see! I've been having a blast with these challenges from the Everyday Matters yahoo group. Most of these are things I would never think to sketch but it's good practice and gives you the knowledge that you can sketch anything.

EDM #162 and journaling

EDM challenge #162 Draw your breakfast

This was my breakfast early this morning. I was starving so I was just going to eat it but decided I really should draw it, that was after I took a couple of bites. I just turned it around so you couldn't see the bites missing but left a few crumbs for a clue.... :)
The sketch below I did yesterday after pulling weeds around my yard, the weeds are winning, by the way. It was nice to just sit and relax and draw! That's the first time I've just sat outside all summer! It's been busy and I've been on the go. I was so thrilled with myself for being able to write around my drawing!!!!!!! LOL!

Lily and more........

This is my page for this morning. I actually wrote around the drawing! I've been having a hard time doing that, maybe it's from all those years of painting professionally and selling my work..... Anyway, this morning I did Danny's way of drawing with rarely looking at the paper. It's really hard to do, I'm used to constantly looking to see what I'm doing. This is not my first attempt at Danny's technique, the coffee mug turned out totally off balance etc. This is fun though. For some many years I had a preconceived notion of what I could draw and couldn't draw. I never would have tried to draw my daughter sitting in the chair before, that would have been too hard. So I'm learning that I can draw anything (maybe not very good), but I can draw it. That's pretty cool! Can't wait to try more people!

This was my drawing/painting for yesterday. Now a question for you, is this just a day lily? There are Stargazer Lily's and I'm not sure what all kinds so I wasn't sure what kind this one is, although I know it's not the Stargazer Lily.

EDMs and other sketches

These are some more sketches I did in the last 2 days. I've been cleaning and rearranging my art room and the entire basement, and still am, so the other night I sat down and put my tired feet up and drew them. The next morning I drew my hand, it's a little out of proportion but looks okay (my fingers aren't that long). Then last night I decided to try to draw this chair and my daughter happened to be sitting in it watching something sort of scary, this one was too light and parts of it didn't show up on the scan so I had to go in and play with the color saturation to get it to show up- that's why it looks different..... This morning I drew the Miracle Gro fertilizer bottle - I need to do some yard work when I get done with the basement and art room.... I need about 4 or 5 clones of me! Now that would be cool! One could clean the house, the other could pull weeds and take care of the yard, one could cook, and the rest of us could do art!!!!!!! :D

More sketches and another EDM challenge #9

These are some of my latest sketches. The feathers I did Sunday morning in pen and ink, I thought they turned out pretty well. The coffee cup this morning did not turn out too well so I didn't have a problem journaling around it. The top picture is my desk - EDM challenge #9, of course it's supposed to be an organized mess, but what can I say? It's an avalanche waiting to happen....... God knows what I would find under all this! It's fairly accurate except that my camera is huge compared to the computer screen, but I'm pretty happy with it, that I actually drew a representation of this mess. And now that I've thoroughly embarrassed myself by showing you my messy desk, I guess I better get with the program and clean it off!

A rose in pen and ink

This is a quick sketch I did of a live rose in pen and ink. I did this last night while I was cooking dinner and had an extra five or 10 minutes. I will probably paint it, just thought I would post it this way before I add some color....... I usually use pencil so I can erase and get the image right. I try and do photo realistic paintings, I don't know why, I guess I find it a challenge to see if I can make it look like a photo.

And you thought I forgot!

I bet you thought I forgot to do my sketch for the day yesterday.....:)
I just didn't get around to loading it.
I actually did this one yesterday with my morning coffee.

EDM challenge - #23

And another challenge! These are a lot of fun to do. Number 23 was to draw your foot. I have drawn my feet and hands a lot because sometimes there's just nothing else to draw. Some of the challenges I would never think to draw what they suggest, but it expands my repertoire. I'm really bad at portraits though, so I'm not looking forward to any of those...

EDM #178

Another EDM challenge, paint something red. Well this rose was red before it dried.... I love painting dried roses. I'm planning on journaling about this one or maybe I'll do another tomorrow and add some words. Right now I have to go cook dinner, right in the middle of my muse........

Everyday Matters

I just joined a group called Everyday Matters, based on the book by Danny Gregory, it's a sketching group and they have a weekly challenge. This weeks challenge was an onion. Then I went back through all the challenges they've ever had and picked a few. I took down my drafting table to do altered art and I'm going to have to put it back up. I'm not used to drawing on a flat table (that's my excuse for the messed up perspective on the can and the bottle). :) LOL! Well that, and I have a terrible head cold or something.....

Anyway...... I haven't drawn for awhile so I've gotten out of practice. The more you draw the better you get.

A new blog.......

First off, I just want to say that everyone can draw. You wouldn't believe how many people tell me they can't draw a straight line, or they can't draw a stick figure. I can't draw a straight line without a ruler. My thought is, if you really want to draw you can, it just takes practice. I don't always do great drawings and I'll show you a few that aren't too hot.

I wanted to start a new blog just for my sketches and paintings so here it is....... I've drawn since I was eight years old (or so) and have been painting in various mediums for over 20 years. I took a break a couple of years ago and got into altered art but I'm starting to miss painting so I'm trying to squeeze that in also. An artist friend of mine recommended drawing for 15 minutes a day, no matter what it is, doodles or real sketches. I got out of that habit and now I'm getting back into it. It's my goal to draw everyday. Just something, anything, just to do it. I hope this inspires you to do the same........
